Women and Pride

We would like to put LGBTQ+ women, and those who feel connected to this community, in the center of the attention. To connect younger generations to older generations, women+ from different backgrounds and life experiences and encourage the exchange between the different people in our community. Is there a common ground, what are the values that emerge and how can we consolidate these? 

As a committee we would like to contribute to the community, starting this Pride edition with four events. A poetry reading (Woman & Pride at Scheltema), a Poetry Night at Parool Theater, sisterhood panel on solidarity between cis- and transwomen. And last but not least a fetish party at Eagle Amsterdam. Come, join and see each other during one of our events! The new Pride women’s committee consists of four people, each bringing a unique background, perspective and expertise to the table. We would like to introduce ourselves (from left to the right):Esmée Ronde (she/her) is a theater director and playwright, born and raised in Amsterdam with strong roots in Surinam. She teaches Theatre at different schools and organizations in the Netherlands and is currently making a new play with her girlfriend. Whenever Esmée is not teaching or directing, she is dancing and singing. 

Max Jonker (they/them) is a queer performer, mover, teacher and based in Amsterdam. They are involved in different sorts of projects within the field of (queer) documentary/film, physical theater, contact improvisation and education. Soon the documentary ‘Duizend Kleuren’ will be released, which is centered around collecting and archiving the stories of Mil Colores, a group of BIPOC queer women (@duizendkleuren).

Sarah Ringoet (she/her) is a Flemish theatre director, performer, playwright and poet living in Amsterdam. She also teaches physical theatre at The Amsterdam University of the Arts. Recently, Ringoet released the poetry collections NOT | STILL & .in which dimension are we dancing.

Nathalie Janssen (voorzitter/ chair | she/her): works as a Diversity Officer Education at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and lives in Amsterdam. Also one of the forces behind VU Pride, the LGBTQIA+ network at VU. Loves cooking, playing guitar, politics, has a hyperfocus on Japanese knives, illustrator, and loves going to parties and organizing stuff.
